Circa early 1900 stoneware/pottery sculpture of African-American, Rock Mills, Alabama school, Albany slip, well-shaped and hand thrown corset body, sculpted head/face/arms/hands/fingernails, applied ears, eyebrows and hair continuing around back, hand thrown short top hat with combing decoration on upper and lower brim/side and top of crown, red painted decoration on hat/side and lips, incised “+” on side of top hat.
16.75” tall, 10” wide at shoulders, 9.75” deep.
Condition - overall excellent, two large pieces broken/missing on hat brim. 1064
Provenance – African-American family in Chattahoochee river valley area/Lanett, AL. Purportedly in possession of this family for many years.
