Circa 1845 Neoclassical five piece silver plate on copper coffee and tea set, “Maple & Co / London / three inline dot” (likely date mark) –impressed and touchmark, “12867” impressed on coffee and tea pots, old Sheffield or London Plate, fused silver on copper (tea and coffee have unfinished interiors), Brand - teaset.
Form - heavy excellent Empire baluster form and unusual horizontally ribbed body on each piece, Classical egg & dart rims, ball feet, scrolled wood handles and finials.
Construction – each has two-part body with externally imperceptible well-worked seams visible on interior near bottom and ribs, Flat-plate bottoms, Ball feet plate silver on German silver, Applied classical egg and dart molding.
Overall weight – six pounds.
Coffee pot – 9” tall, 8” spout to handle, 4.5” wide.
Tea pot – 5.5” tall, 11” spout to handle, 5” wide.
Creamer – 4” tall, 5.25” spout to handle, 3” wide.
Sugar – 4” tall, 6.25” across handle, 3.5” wide.
Tray - 18” long, 12.5” wide, 2.25” tall. Circa 1950, “W&S Blackington [Meriden, CT] / Fine Silver Plate / Since 1865 / 85”, open gallery with gadrooned rim, engraved style tray surface.
Condition – solid handles, finials and hinges, overall excellent surface with nominal/no wear.
Coffeepot- dent by lower handle.
Teapot- no dents, slight silver/surface crack at under spout, original/but loose finial nut. Creamer- nominal dent under spout.
Sugar- no dents.
Tray- assembled to set, no dents. 1419/1420
