Circa 1850 Rococo Gothic Victorian Magnum Candle lamp, Palmer & Co patent, bronze, cut glass, finely cast gilt bronze base depicting Gothic facade of the Bastille, freedom fighter with canon and guard standing by door, rocky and floral motif feet, excellent white to ruby cut glass central column with gilt decoration, gilt bronze rocaille motif flared capitol with cabochons, large original brass internal cylinder without the original spring mechanism for the Palmer candle.

23” tall to top of capital, 32” overall, 10” across base.
Condition – great overall, shows nominal wear on gilt bronze and gilt glass decoration, includes original central Palmer candle cylinder, without the internal springs/mechanism, electrified/not offensively drilled.    1286

- Rare and unique "souvenir" base depicting the July 14, 1789 battle at the Bastille turning the tide in the French Revolution and memorialized July 14 as the French Freedom Day.

- Palmer candle lamp patents/improvements – 1832 /38 /39 /42 /45 /46 and 1849.

- This is a rarer and harder to find example of early 19th century lighting than the heavy oil based Carcel, moderator, sinumbra, astral and solar lamps all becoming technologically obsolete to more efficient and brighter kerosene use beginning in the 1860s. This is great example of early 19th century lighting. Altho missing the internal mechanism, lighting fixture and the original shade, this is an excellent motif of freedoms expressed in the 18th century and a large scale lamp.
