LAMP, whale oil, Thomas Cains, S Boston, MA, cut glass font, 11"t, c1840

Circa 1830-45 free blown cut and pressed whale oil lamp, attributed to Thomas Cains’ Glass House, South Boston, MA, well cut leaf/berry/garland font, nice shoulder wafer attached to blown inverted pyriform pedestal knop, triple wafer attached to eight-rib, step and square turret molded base, striations to glass/no cracks or damage (one flake-base), Brand - Th Cain.
Original pewter collar, double tube burner.

10.75” tall at collar, 3.75” sq.
Condition – overall excellent, one flake on side of base, normal striations in base/pedestal, chip on one pedestal reed-softened edges during manufacture.     694h

- A comparable lamp with the identical base and with Thomas Cains typical "air-trap" font was sold at Jeffrey Evans, 10/23/2010, lot 78. My understanding is that lamp was "Published: Kaiser - South Boston, p. 47, fig. 19." And "Parallels Wilson - New England, p. 228, fig. 190, and Spillman - Corning, p. 212, fig. 821.".
