Pair circa 1840 Empire chairs, probably Thomas Day, NC, solid cherry, flame mahogany on all front surfaces, great gothic crest with graduating arch rib and deep double scroll cutout, reticulated lyre splat back, ogee bowed skirt, inward curving front stretcher, sabre legs, turned stretchers, upholstered slip seats, original numbers- IV,X.

32” tall, 17.5” wide, 19” deep.  18” seat height.
Condition – solid, good old finish, upholstery good with light stains.       967h

- Possibly an early production of Thomas Day with the use of solid cherry construction.
- Thomas Day (1801-1861). African-American cabinetmaker working in NC / Va area opening a shop in Milton, NC in 1827 working till 1871 (operated by son Tom Day, Jr to 1871). Circa 1850s Thomas Day operated the largest cabinet shop in the area
