Circa 1850 Pompeii inspired Neoclassical gueridon salon table / sewing stand, dressing stand, Roed Jorgen, Denmark, probably sabicu (a high-quality cabinet wood very similar to mahogany), maple interior, high-grade pine secondary wood, solid brass period/handmade hardware-locking hinge brace and lock, round fitted case, molded apron, lift-top reveals fitted interior and access to lower storage, pleated silk, well-done scroll anthemion leaf, tulip and heart carved knees on great shaped cabriole legs, great carved paw feet with pads. Brand - Neoclassical.

Condition – overall excellent and solid, old finish, slight curving on top board, exceptional solid repair on ankle of one leg (strong mortised repair), three later laminated interior covers/one original, three replaced foot-pads, repairs well-done and solid.               1297

- Roed Jorgen, Denmark (1808-88). Danish golden Age painter and designer. He designed this table in 1841 after visiting Napoli and Pompeii. A finely crafted and carved high quality stand of exceptional cabinetwork, carving and exquisitely done leg and paw feet. A simple almost “Modern” design. An example is in the Copenhagen Museum, Denmark.
Roed Jorgen was among a group of mid 19th century painters that also did interior design, decorations and furniture.
